About your new role

Our national Private Wealth team is recognised in both the Legal 500 and Chambers High Net Worth directories. We are proud to provide a personal, transparent and efficient service by a team which includes fully qualified members of STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) as well as members of Solicitors for the Elderly. Understanding the importance of careful estate planning to help provide for future generations, we offer lifetime and post-death planning to a diverse range of clients. The Birmingham team has been shortlisted twice for the Birmingham Legal Awards Private Client Team of the Year in 2019 and 2020 (carried over to 2021) and the national team has bee shortlisted and won multiple awards in the last 7 years under the current leadership team.

You will work closely with the Partner/National Team Manager and Associate in Birmingham and the existing team there to grow the business and ensure excellent client service.  You will promote the firm and its services with intermediaries and assist with developing relationships with the existing network of intermediaries and with new contacts.  Business development and winning work is an important part of this role.  Whilst the role is advertised as one for a Principal Associate, it would suit  keen Associates with a minimum of 4 years PQE who are driven and thrive in a close teamworking environment.

Main purpose of role

You will work closely with the Partner in Birmingham and the existing team there to grow the business and ensure excellent client service. You will promote the firm and its services with intermediaries and assist with developing relationships with the existing network of intermediaries and with new contacts.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Manage own caseload of private client work, including high value/complex probate work, trust administration and estate planning for high net worth individuals
  • Assist other case handlers in the team and wider department with their cases as may be required
  • Supervise and develop the skills of other more junior team members
  • Advise and take instructions from clients in relation to their financial affairs
  • Travel to and attend upon clients
  • Prepare and file various correspondence, notes and documentation
  • Assist with marketing the services of the team and wider department
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets\KPIs
  • Ensure relevant deadlines and quality measures are adhered to
  • Comply with relevant Weightmans client policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About You

  • Qualified solicitor or FILEX
  • Keen interest and vast experience in all aspects of private client law, but particularly high value/complex probate work, trust administration and estate planning for high net worth individuals
  • STEP qualified is desirable
  • Business development skills and experience – an existing network of contacts would be highly advantageous
  • Conscientious, self-motivated, hardworking, responsive, with critical thinking abilities and excellent communication, organisation and analytical skills
