This is an opportunity for you to join the country’s leading police team responsible for making applications for civil protective orders such as Domestic Violence Protection orders, Stalking Protection orders, Sexual Harm Prevention orders but also manage police disclosure cases in and out of the family court. You will also be required to provide operational advice to police forces across the country. You will work within the Regulatory Department which is one of the largest in the country and is recognised by clients and other lawyers as being one of the best. We advise clients across all sectors including health, public sector, corporations and individuals.
This is a mixed skill -set role with an expectation that that you will run and prepare your own case load from opening through to court hearings. We would ideally like all the team to have a willingness to engage in advocacy, but this is not essential and can be, for the right candidate, a paper-based role. The main bulk of the advocacy is carried out in Guildford, Brighton and Ipswich but we also have work in Cambridgeshire, Wiltshire and London.
The police team operates in a high-energy, fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. We are seeking highly motivated, adaptable professionals who can manage a high workload, respond quickly to changing demands, and maintain accuracy and professionalism under pressure. The ideal candidate embraces new challenges and takes pride in staying organised and efficient in a busy setting. We are looking for lawyers to advise, prepare and present civil protective orders in the Magistrates’ Court. There are opportunities to be involved with operational advice, inquest advocacy, training to police forces, officers Junior to Senior.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of around 100 civil protective orders in a very busy team, with high volume, quick turnaround applications
- Open files and draft all paperwork for the civil order applications, be responsible for your own management information data input completion, administration and diary keeping
- Managing and Taking responsibility for shared inboxes
- taking calls regularly to provide ad hoc advice and/ or taking calls for team members on their court days
- (Present cases in the Magistrates' courts/Crown Court if you have Higher Rights daily in person travelling to our designated courts for hearings)
- interacting with both the client personnel and Respondents, defence solicitors, police officers and counsel.
- Organise Case Manager diary and action lists
- Legal Drafting and bundling.
- Achieve set financial and chargeable targets and using a time recording application to record all work done on individual files
