About your new role

Our Healthcare team is a vibrant and specialist department, advising on all aspects of healthcare law. This includes clinical negligence, patient safety, consent to treatment, human rights, child law, and mental health matters.

We take pride in working hard for our clients to achieve the right outcomes, while continually developing our technical expertise and adapting to meet evolving client needs.

The healthcare sector is fast-paced and engaging, offering a wide variety of interesting and meaningful work. We provide a supportive and collaborative environment where the successful candidate will be encouraged to grow and develop both their own skills and contribute to the wider team’s success.  We have positions in Birmingham, Newcastle & Leeds.

The Role

You will support case handlers in managing pre- and post-litigated clinical negligence claims on behalf of NHS Resolution.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting senior fee earners with a range of case-related tasks, including:
    • Drafting letters of approach
    • Preparing instructions to experts and counsel
    • Obtaining medical records
    • Preparing chronologies
    • Tracing and interviewing witnesses
    • Managing disclosure bundles
    • Liaising with the Compensation Recovery Unit (CRU)
  • Supporting the completion of client MI processes and databases
  • Working towards agreed financial and chargeable hours targets
  • Ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and KPIs are consistently met
  • Complying with relevant policies and procedures
  • Working in line with Weightmans’ values

This is not an exhaustive list, and you may be required to undertake additional tasks in line with the needs of the team.

About You

We are looking for candidates with previous experience working in a Paralegal role and a genuine interest in developing their career within this area of law.

While experience in clinical negligence or healthcare law would be advantageous, it is not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with strong transferable paralegal experience who are keen to learn and develop in this field.

You will also demonstrate:

  • An understanding of litigation processes (knowledge of CPR would be beneficial)
  • The ability to work to strict deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Experience working to client service standards and KPIs
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • A proactive and flexible approach to your work

If you are enthusiastic, motivated, and eager to develop your career within a supportive team, we would be delighted to hear from you.
