About your new role

 The Regulatory Department is one of the largest in the country and is recognised by clients and other lawyers as being one of the best. We advise clients across all sectors including health, public sector, corporations, transport and individuals. The breadth of regulatory work undertaken in the team encompasses motor crime, financial crime, health and safety, Inquests, transport regulatory and Public Inquiries and more.

Main duties and responsibilities

Primary responsibility is to work with fee earners on their cases, undertaking tasks such as:-

  • Opening files and taking initial instructions
  • Drafting letters of approach/instruction to experts, instructing counsel, collating documents, preparing chronologies, tracing and interviewing witnesses and generally assisting colleagues to manage a case load of files.
  • Corresponding with other parties and following up communications
  • Attending hearings to take notes (both remote and in-person hearings)
  • Assisting with drafting instructions to counsel and experts
  • Preparing bundles of documents on behalf of clients for Court, Tribunal or other hearings
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
  • Ensure relevant deadlines, quality measures and KPIs are adhered to
  • Comply with relevant policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About You

You will have previous experience in working on litigated cases as a paralegal and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the relevant area of work. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also expect you to have the following skills:

  • Professional manner and client-facing experience
  • Ability to work to deadlines / targets, to prioritise and manage a caseload and to work under pressure to deliver effective solutions
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and on your own initiative and with a positive attitude
  • A commercial, solution-driven and client-focused approach
  • Strong legal and analytical skills and an eye for detail
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent IT skills

Essential Skills

  • Excellent written and telephone communication
  • Minimum 2 years paralegal experience
  • Experience in working on inquest and regulatory defence cases
  • A desire to learn new skills
  • Attention to detail
  • A willingness to develop your skills
  • The ability to work to strict deadlines and timescales
  • Ability to work to client SLA and KPIs
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Excellent written and organisation skills
  •  Able to absorb instructions quickly and diligently and produce high-quality work
